A request by Jochen from Berlin, Germany

We would like a work of art that conveys the values and mission of Urban Change Lab. We would like an artistic exploration and interpretation. We would like an artist who acts freely and takes his artistic freedom.

The sketch provided is of a a 9mm blockboard of 4ft by 2.5ft.
A dome under which are city buildings with greenery with a clamp holding onto a light bulb into the dome. What's under the dome represents the various craftsmen in the city/urban area and development. It's also the lab from whence the ideas come from. The outside of the dome will be covered in ankara prints to bring the african vibe nto the project.

Hi Victor, I would like you to dig a little deeper to properly present our mission. Feel free to do so after you've been formally commissioned.

Victor Warunge (27. December 2020)

A city is marked by the buildings that make up its constitution, the shape and originality of its architecture carries with it weight that equals the ideas present in the city. In Africa as there are in Europe are different cities, jeered towards city centres for employment, entertainment, and edification and each with its uniqueness. However, in a world of intensifying globalization, all cities are to varying degrees also connected globally beyond these regions. This increased influence means that cities also have significant influences on global issues, such as sustainable development, global warming and global health. Because of these major influences on global issues, the international community has prioritized investment in sustainable cities through Sustainable Development Goals.
The under the dome effect achieved in stringart is therefore symbolic of Urban Change Lab as an incubator for ideas to change whilst offering solutions to business and therefore shedding light to the economic needs of countries in Africa. Our emphasis on handcrafted products stresses the need to connect cities beyond business and into arts and culture emanating from the different styles and techniques available in Africa.

Hi Jochen, my apologies for not getting back to you earlier, I had a run-in with my agent at home the day after you sent me the money. I went shopping for nails in Gikomba and to my return found my house locked, after talks with the agent, he said he couldn't unlock the door without a months rent with me at hand. I'd already spent some and he isn't willing to negotiate, I'm currently at residing at a friends and there's no telling when I'll be able to bounce back on the project and for this I am sorry.

Hi Victor,

I had asked before commissioning to dig a little deeper to represent our company artistically. The picture now looks exactly like the drawing, I don't find that optimal yet.
Many greetings
Jochen

Hi Victor, as already written twice I would like you to question your concept. It could be more inspiring in my opinion.

Victor Warunge (4. February 2021)

To try and encompass the values and mission of Urban Change Lab. I have designed a city under a dome, the plume of smoke coming from the reactor is symbolic of the efforts of UCL in the Urban area, herby represented by the City skyline under a spherical dome(In my hopes to achieve what looks like the earth as a spinning ball as the environment. This is also done to call into the scene the environmental impact of the ideas sort within the efforts of the organisation. To me, Urban Change Lab is as art does, it brings things into light, it illuminates us and sheds light into the heart of our darkness and says, "See!"
To accentuate the idea of change, common yet inadmissible pattern of life, I have used the same same chemical reactor; our ideas at times are good whilst some others are considered pollutant. We have a means of producing energy that's sustaining but polluting, to continue to use it would be disastrous to the environment and the people in it area over a period of time.
The organisation, UCL uses its knowledge to bring forth the ideas that are fresh and riveting into the market where they can best be realised.

The photos shared today echo the words here and give the composition a jeńe de qua.

Hi Victor, 🤔 I would see the UCL slightly differently but accept your interpretation. Many greetings
