I have understood your measurements and made a rough sketch of the tray. Please find attached a drawing of the same
What would be your preferred outer wall thickness dimension for the tray? I plan on using 2 ½ by 1 inch (6cmx2.5cm) thick wood
Also what is your preferred choice of material in terms of timber (mahogany, cypress, pine or repurposed pallets) and finishing e.g. varnish, wax or paint?
Would you like the tray to be just plain without compartments as you've indicated?

Hello, we think option one is great. We would like to see the left and right side diagonally as shown in the picture. So it will fit better into the drawer. If we can get the slanting like this, a height of 7cm as shown in the drawing would be great. The outer wall thickness would be 2 cm with we think is better. Would it be possible to fix rubber mats in the compartments which are removable to clean them again. A natural glaze that allows you to see the grain of the wood well.

I've had a look at the image of the sketch you've sent. My interpretation is this; is this a side profile of the cultery tray as attached in the sketch I've done? And is the angle of inclination from the base to the top 120° from the inside part?
If so, what's the length you'd like for the tray as illustrated as (x)?

Hi, Martin,
The slants are only on the left and right side. The front and back of the wall would be straight. I hope the sketch of me explains this well. X is 47cm, the exact tilt angle can not tell you but with the length of 72cm above and 68cm below, as well as the length of the slant of 7cm this should be well recognizable.
I had forgotten in the last mail that with your option 1 the left part, we would like to have these spice holders as in your example. Where do we stand with these things priced?

All considerations done... I've sent images of the layout of the tray. I begin sanding of the wood today. The base of the tray will be of joined pieces of wood. Would you like some of them to be stained to give different appeal in layout? I've attached a sample of a table I've stained to achieve the effect.

The three compartments at the bottom are too small, these 3 compartments should later be used for soups, spoons, forks and knives. only the small spoons and small forks come into the 2 upper compartments. please adjust the proportions. you can also reduce the width of the large compartments on the left and right to get the necessary space.

Am not using mahogany. The price I quoted above was based on pine or cypress. Also you had not mentioned in the first brief I include the rubber mats.

I am not using mahogany. The price I quoted above was based on pine or cypress as I mentioned in the material section upon submission of costs. I'd asked about material preferences in one of our threads but I just realized now that you might have missed that part. I'd asked for this in our very first thread.
If this mahogany finishing is crucial to what you want I am happy to give it a mahogany stain finish if you like.

Yeah, that'd be great to get a Mahahoni finish. It is only important that the lower 3 compartments are so large that the large forks, spoons and knives have room. Above only the small spoons and small forks should find room.

Hello the length for the spoons, forks and knives would be good with minimum 23 cm. The width per compartment would be optimal with 10cm.

Hi,
I've done joinery for the base to avoid any possible warping in the future. The second image shows the joinery bit. Almost through with sanding. One of the other images shows the exact measurements and layout of the drawer. The other image shows the size of the thickness of the wood, slightly at 23mm, but that won't affect the size of the outside measurement of the drawer.

on the picture you can see that the lower plate is divided. Could you possibly make this out of one plate? I'm afraid we don't like the split. The divisions are correct.

Its not a split. When staining, a little darker lined formed at the joinery section making it look like that. But I assure you its all good. The plate is continuous without any space or split.

Hi, I sent you the picture of you once with markings. There you can see that it is two flats.
We don't find this nice and would be happy if you use a complete plate there. After all, it should also look good and of high quality.
It was not possible to find a plank of wood that size. Hence, joinery of several pieces and the use of filler in that particular joint and filler doesn't take stain the same way as wood. Having to take out the plank out completely means having to restart all over again.

Hello, the two plates really don't look good, but if you can put a coat of varnish on the whole cutlery tray, so that this wood doesn't look so spotted, it might look better.
Could you paint this all over again?
