At Urban Change Lab, we’ve made a decision that might seem unusual for a business today: we have stepped away from the major social media platforms. Not because we encountered negativity there – we didn’t. Instead, we realized that our approach and values don’t align with the way social media functions and struggles to create the kind of connections we value. Our work stands for ecological sustainability, fairness, anti-racism, and positive societal change. These values are more than marketing words for us – they are the core of everything we do.
Our Values – More Than Just a Concept
We are committed to fair trade that benefits both customers and artisans. Our products are created through collaboration, respect, and mutual appreciation. This means we are dedicated to finding ecological, fair, and inclusive solutions in all we do. Our goal is not just to create unique products but also to make a positive social impact – whether by fostering anti-racist cooperation, ensuring fair wages, or promoting environmentally responsible production methods. These values are logical and make sense, but they rarely fit into quick, attention-grabbing headlines – making it challenging to find visibility on social media.
Real Connections Over Quick Likes
Another reason for stepping away from social media is our responsibility toward the people who work with us. We’ve seen how social media managers and influencers struggle with the constant pressure to generate attention, stay visible, and play into the algorithms. These roles can heavily impact mental health over time. Connecting people with our project should be inspiring, not exhausting. By moving away from social media, we’re consciously choosing to reject a system that often prioritizes short-term clicks over long-term well-being.
Meaningful Exchanges, Not Fleeting Interactions
Social media often emphasizes quick, superficial interactions. But genuine conversations don’t happen through fleeting likes or comments. Our work thrives on meaningful exchanges – and for that, we need space and time. We’d love to connect directly with you: give us a call, send us an email, or invite us to meet with your group. If your organization or community is interested in discussing sustainable production, fair trade, or social responsibility, we’d be glad to join and share our experiences. Our mission is to connect people and spark ideas for a fairer, more sustainable future – and this is best achieved through open, personal conversations.
Why a Monthly Reminder Might Be Valuable
We know the world is busy, with constant demands on your attention. So we invite you to engage with our updates at a pace that suits you. Perhaps add a small reminder to your calendar to check in with us once a month to see what’s new, or subscribe to our newsletter, where we share our projects, products, and inspiring stories. This way, you can choose how and when to connect with us – without the constant pressure of a social media feed. Alternatively you could sign up for our monthly newsletter.
Walking This Path Together
This decision represents a conscious choice that aligns with our values and mission. We’re not after attention at any cost – we want to reach people who share our vision and want to be part of this movement by choice. Together with you, we can create a world where ecological sustainability, fairness, and social responsibility are valued and lived.
Let’s walk this path together, building a community founded on genuine connections and real dialogue – for a fair, sustainable, and positive future. We would be grateful if you helped us spread the word by sharing Urban Change Lab with friends and colleagues who may share our vision. Your support is invaluable to us – we need you… And don’t forget to try out this two buttons ❤️:
