Kevin Timothy Opondo made Hartmut a sleek, sturdy leather wallet with room for daily essentials and important papers, shaped for comfort and ease. What's your wish? →

This Bespoke Leather Wallet for 8 Cards & Vehicle Docs was made by Kevin Timothy Opondo for someone who wanted a sturdy upright black leather wallet with space for everyday essentials and flat storage for vehicle papers. It is a useful example for anyone considering a custom slim bifold wallet with card capacity, a bill compartment, and a document section built around practical daily use.

  • Request: The brief was for a black leather wallet in an upright format, with no coin pocket, no zip or rivets, one long compartment for bills, space for 8 cards, and a larger flat section for vehicle registration documents.
  • Final result: The finished wallet included 8 card slots, a full bill compartment, and a vehicle document area placed behind the card section for easier access while keeping the papers flat.
  • Design details: Kevin used firm smooth cowhide with black stitching and slightly rounded corners so the wallet stayed structured but remained comfortable to carry in a pocket. A clear durable plastic layer was added to the vehicle papers compartment to help protect documents and keep that section practical to use.
  • Process: Progress updates showed pattern cutting, stitching of the card section, testing of the vehicle document area, and final fit checks to make sure cards sat properly before the outer layer was completed.
  • Fit and use: After delivery, the customer confirmed that the dimensions were right, everything fit as intended, and the craftsmanship and leather feel were very good, with only a note that an even thinner material would have made it slimmer.

A request by Hartmut from Berlin, Germany

I would like a black leather wallet, upright, approximately 9.5 cm wide and 11.5 cm high when closed.

– The wallet should not have a coin compartment, only compartments for bills and cards.
– There should be 1 long compartment for bills inside.
– There should be 6–10 card slots in credit card format (e.g., for bank cards, ID cards).
– In addition, there should be a larger, flat compartment for the vehicle registration document (vehicle papers), preferably without any creases.
– The leather should be fairly smooth, robust, and not too soft, so that the wallet remains sturdy.
– The seams should be sturdy and neatly finished, preferably with matching black thread.
– The corners should be slightly rounded so that the wallet can be carried comfortably in a pocket.
-RFID fabric inside, please.
-No zippers, rivets, or anything else that could cause pressure.

I can make this wallet for you just as you described: upright black leather, no coin pocket, one long bill compartment, 6–10 card slots, a flat compartment for your vehicle papers, sturdy black stitching, slightly rounded corners, and RFID protection inside, all without zippers or rivets.

For the leather, I suggest a medium‑thick, smooth cowhide that is firm enough to stay in shape but still comfortable in the pocket. For the RFID, I can stitch an RFID-blocking fabric layer between the leather and the lining so it’s invisible and doesn’t add much thickness.

Two small points where your input helps:
1) Card slots: Would you prefer 6 or closer to 10 card slots? My suggestion: 8 slots – this keeps the wallet slim but still practical.
2) Vehicle papers: Do you want this large flat compartment behind the card section (so you slide the papers in from the side), or as a separate full-height pocket behind the bill compartment? I’d recommend behind the card section for easier access and to keep the papers flat.

Hello,
I would very much like 8 card slots and the large compartment behind the card area.

Kevin Timothy Opondo (21. February 2026)

Hi Hartmut, your response is clear on the 8 cards slot large compartment behind the card area , fir easier access, fully understood looking forward for you reply on whey to start making the wallet

In my opinion, 56 euros for about a quarter of a square meter of leather is not justified.

Kevin Timothy Opondo (23. February 2026)

The price of the RFID material is very expressive and thats why 56 euros is the price , high quality leather is what i always use , so for a highly quality product 56 euros is fair price

Kevin Timothy Opondo (4. March 2026)

Hi , i have managed to have enough remains of material from previous project , which affect the cost of material required , by reducing the cost , less material will be required to make your preferred wallet , i have sent pictures, and videos of the materials , looking forward for your response on the changes of the cost ,

Hi. I have sent a picture of clear plastic material always used in wallet , which i would like to use on the vehicle paper compartment , as it is strong and durable than the material used on your wallet , looking forward to get your feedback if i should use the material on the , vehicle papers compartment , as i continue working on the leather to make them slimmer

Hartmut (12. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 12, 2026, 5:02 p.m.: Hartmut
Hello, thank you for the suggestion.
That's fine. You are welcome to use plastic.

Very good. And good luck

Kevin Timothy Opondo (15. March 2026)

In the process of stiching the first card slots and vehicle registration , that is how the clear plastic material look on the vehicle registration part

Thanks for the information.
Is the leather discolored in places in the last photo?
It also looks a bit brittle at the edges. It’s not finished yet, is it?

Kevin Timothy Opondo (17. March 2026)

The wallet is not yet finished , that is the card and vehicle registration part , i use cowhide leather pull up , that is the firm and flexible as its little oil to make it flexible , the leather is not discoloured is the plastic fabric that relect through it , i have sent pictures to show you that, i sent picture of the aluminum foil , that i always use as RFID material , is the best because is slim and perfect fit for wallet

Hartmut (17. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 17, 2026, 4:30 p.m.: Hartmut
Okay, and the aluminum foil stays intact too? Doesn't it tear easily?

Kevin Timothy Opondo (17. March 2026)

Yap is strong enough and doesn't tear easily , further more it will be between the lining and the leather so it will be protected by the lining

Hartmut (17. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 17, 2026, 6:54 p.m.: Hartmut
In a photo further up
You had a metal mesh that you said was so expensive.
Now it’s supposed to be cheap aluminum foil.
I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Kevin Timothy Opondo (17. March 2026)

The mesh is expensive but also thick that make the wallet look quite bulky , i can still use the aluminum metal mesh , but make the leather bite thinner , to ensure the wallet look thin , and not bulky

Hartmut (17. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 17, 2026, 8:13 p.m.: Hartmut
But on February 23, we had agreed on this material.
I don’t want cheap aluminum foil to be used now.
Alternatively, we could just leave out the RFID protection entirely. Then I’ll get a blocking card for a few euros.
But then we’ll have to do something about the price since you won’t need this material.
I think that’s the best solution because aluminum doesn’t provide good protection anyway

Kevin Timothy Opondo (17. March 2026)

I think is ok when we do away with the RFID material coz it might have alot of challenge , i agree fairy we have to do something about the price, ok with me

Hartmut (17. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 17, 2026, 10:22 p.m.: Hartmut
Okay. Then without RFID material

Kevin Timothy Opondo (18. March 2026)

Ok , i Will do exactly that

Hartmut (20. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 20, 2026, 5:17 p.m.: Hartmut
All right. Without RFID material

Kevin Timothy Opondo (20. March 2026)

Yes without RFID material

Yes, without RFID

Kevin Timothy Opondo (23. March 2026)

Hartmut (23. March 2026)

(Automatic translation) March 23, 2026, 6:00 p.m.: Hartmut
No, thank you. Please make sure it contains absolutely no RFID material.

Kevin Timothy Opondo (23. March 2026)

Ok , i will make it without the material

Hartmut (24. March 2026)
