This Tailor-Made Red Satin Dress With Gloves was created by Prisca Noel Waiganjo as a custom eveningwear project, inspired by a formal fitted gown with matching opera-length gloves. It is a useful example for anyone considering a made-to-measure satin dress with a dramatic skirt shape, refined bodice, and coordinated accessories for a special event.
- Request: The brief evolved from a burgundy reference idea into a brighter red gown, with a simpler top design and matching long gloves instead of added shoulder detailing.
- Final result: The finished outfit was a red matte satin dress with a fitted upper body, ankle-length skirt, puffed lower silhouette, and separate satin gloves made to coordinate closely in color and finish.
- Design details: Matte satin was chosen as the closest available fabric for the desired fluid look, and crinoline was added to help the skirt hold more volume and shape. The gloves were also adjusted to avoid bunching and to sit more cleanly along the arm.
- Fit and use: This was made to measure with several rounds of updated sizing, including a final shorter length from the waist for easier walking and the option to wear the dress with or without heels.
- Process: The project included fabric selection, sketch refinement, progress photos of the bodice and skirt, and final feedback confirming that the dress fit perfectly and matched what was wanted.

I think I measured my shoulder wrongly its 40cm not 36cm.
I would like to have the dress in a brocade fabric if possible, otherwise if you have any recommendations I´m open to see them.
From the photos you´ve sent only one is a sample the other photo looks like a Pension advertisement. Which other samples do you have? I think I would like the dress to have a brighter shade compared to the second photo.

Apologies for the misplaced photo.
Please find photos of more samples. Brocade fabric is not available in the country, matte satin is what's available. It's the closest to what was used in the photo and achieves the flowy look.
The two maroons in the photos are what's available. The next brightest is red.

I´ve had someone else redo the measurements for me and here they are:
1. Shoulder to upper bust - 14cm (from the back too)
One shoulder to other shoulder - 39.5cm
2. Upper bust - 34cm
3. Bust -38cm
4. Underbust - 36cm
5. Waist (where you wear high-waist pants) - 66.5cm
6. Shoulder to waist - 28cm
7. Hips - 86.4cm
8. Waist to full length - 95cm
Gloves
1. Bicep - 21.8cm (I would prefer it made with an elastic band)
2. Elbow - 22cm no bunching on elbow
3. Wrist - 13.5cm
4. Longest finger to bicep (length) - 55cm
And for the gloves could you make it with a material with no bunching elbow? (Maybe you could recommend something )

So far I’ve made the top part of the dress. Please check and let me know if it’s okay.
I’d like clarification on whether you’d like the bottom of the dress to puff out as in the photo you had provided. (Please note that the dress in the photo you provided was made to puff out for pictorial effects)
In reality the dress does not puff like that. The slit is a bit hidden.

This is as a result of changing the length of the dress. When it’s long, it adds a flow. Also consider that the mannequin is taller than you hence the dress will be more flowy on you.
