About Naftal Mageto Momanyi
Born in 1961, Naftal Mageto Momanyi am a self taught artist who’s love for fine art books through the Kenya National Library services and
long term association with professional art educators in East Africa turned my talent into an intellectual gear that enables me to create superlative works of intellectual artistic merit.Among major artistic events I have participated includes:an exhibition of contemporary East African Art at The Commonwealth Institute in London in 1984,the Kenya- Canada cultural exchange festival in 1986,and the 1994 traveling exhibition in 20 cities across the western Canada region.I was also the facilitator in the 1994 international sculptors festival, held in Weyburn Saskatchewan during my 6 Months residency in Canada. The inspiration for my art springs from the compelling desire to communicate my emotional experiences to the people using artistic images as a symbolic language through which information is conveyed based on topical themes. I create in multiple techniques ranging from realistic to abstract art forms and also carve portraits in stone. My works are original and the ability to create from a given story is my long time experience. Analytical detailing in form and subject contents aimed at emphasizing the dominance of a particular feeling in
the physical character of a sculpture is a crucial aspect in my work plan. I use a variety of stones, wood and casting.
