This Custom African Print Bomber Jacket shows how Nyambura Irungu turned a request for a lighter-lined statement jacket into a finished everyday layer with a bold printed fabric and classic bomber details. It is a useful example for anyone considering a custom African print jacket and wanting to see how fabric choice, lining weight and fit come together in the final piece.

  • Request: The project started with a custom bomber jacket in African print fabric, with a lining that would not feel too heavy and a design suitable for pickup on a clear deadline.
  • Final result: The finished jacket used the selected print with a purple and yellow central stripe and green and purple geometric shapes, completed in a classic bomber silhouette.
  • Design details: Nyambura finished the jacket with light jersey lining in grey and black rib knit trim at the neck, hem and cuffs, balancing structure with easier everyday wear.
  • Fit and use: This kind of custom piece works well for someone who wants a bomber jacket that stands out visually while still feeling practical and comfortable enough for regular use.
  • Process: Progress was documented from the drafted pattern to fabric preparation, construction stages, interior finishing and final photos, with a short work-in-progress video shared before completion; the finished jacket also received very positive customer feedback.

Hi Jesse,

I'd love to make an offer for your idea. I've attached a few material examples that range between 1500 Kenya shillings and 4000 Kenya shillings, for you to choose from.Kindly let me know which one you like best.
Regards,
Nyambura.

Jesse (5. August 2019)

Hello Nyambura,

thanks for your quick answer. I'd prefer the first or the last design, how much would I have to pay for the whole jacket on both options (including labour)? Do you eventually have another two or three design options that you could share with me?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Jesse

Nyambura Irungu (6. August 2019)

Hi Jesse,
I found a few more fabrics. Kindly have a look and let me know what you like. I've also indicated the prices as all of them cost 1500/-

Jesse (8. August 2019)

Okay, I checked the fabrics. I prefer the very first design you sent me (the one with a purple and yellow stripe in the middle and green and purple triangles). I am okay with the price and I'm looking forward to receiving the jacket. I'll leave Kenya on August 23rd, so I will have to pick it up before that date.

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Jesse

Nyambura Irungu (9. August 2019)

Hi Jesse, that's an excellent choice. I'll get to working on it and have your jacket ready on the 17th.

Many Thanks,
Nyambura.

Nyambura Irungu (15. August 2019)

Hi Jesse,

Here we are so far...
The first three, are photos of the jacket front, back and sleeves.
The fourth, shows the front and back pieces joined together.
The 5th and 6th photo are of the jacket back and front respectively.
The last photo shows how the jacket looks with the sleeves attached.

I begin the final steps of adding light jersey lining and black rib knit (the trim on the neck, hem and sleeves of the jacket) tomorrow and will update you by end of day.

Many Thanks,
Nyambura.
