Why would you place a custom made order?
Have you ever thought about creating something in your mind but didn’t really know how? Or saw something on Pinterest and couldn’t really figure out where to get it from. Maybe you know exactly what you want and even where to get it, but it just doesn’t feel quite right; it doesn’t feel like you.
This is where we come in. Urban Change Lab is an online platform that specialises in creating custom-made orders where your ideas turn into a beautiful reality. That custom-made wooden cutlery tray that you simply can’t seem to find – we can make that for you. Or a beautiful leather handbag that your grandmother gave you when you were little that’s fallen apart, we can recreate that for you.
How to directly place a custom made order.
At Urban Change Lab, we turn memories and ideas into reality. All you need is to place a request via our website, there are three ways to do that:
a) Request something you have in mind
If you have an idea in mind, describe it in your words by filling in a web form. We don’t expect all the details. Something as simple as “I want a leather bag”, “I need a wooden cutlery tray”, “I would like a fancy dress” is workable. However, we do not hold you back from providing us with all the details to make your item special.
In the next step after you have submitted your request one of our artisans will reach out through our system. You will receive an email with questions that you can easily respond to and have the opportunity to chat with your artisan from across the world. The artisan will provide you with suggestions for material and you will be able to collaborate to create a beautiful and functional item.
Once you are happy, a quote will be sent to you listing down all costs such as cost of material, cost of labor, tax, transport, and all the little details. We do this to assure you that your artisan is fairly paid. We aim to be as transparent as we can and show you and the public the breakdown of making your custom-made item.
The system will then prompt you to make payment in advance. This is to ensure that your artisan can buy materials and create your item. The artisan is compensated in three installments: the first payment to buy material, the second on delivery to the local operations manager and a final payment when you receive your item and confirm satisfaction.
The wonderful part about the platform is that you will be updated by your artisan on the progress of your item through pictures and or videos. You will be able to ask them to change or add details even during the creation process and therefore be part of the journey. When you confirm that the item is ready to be shipped your artisan will hand it over to the local operations manager. We take the time to ensure that each item is made carefully with your specifications in mind. This is confirmed by our local operations manager who checks the quality of your item.
Once you and the local operations manager approve the item is shipped to you and you have your beautiful custom-made item from your artisan via the Urban Change Lab.
b) Requesting for an custom made item you have seen on our page to be remade for you
If you happen to be scrolling on the Urban Change Lab website and come across something that you love, you’re able to make a request for something similar to be made for you.
On the specific project page, you will scroll down to the bottom of the page and select ‘request quote’. Here, you will be able to either request the exact same item that you saw or make changes. You have the option of requesting a different shape, dimension colour, size, and more. The beauty of custom-made items is that no item is identical. Every single item is handmade with care and attention to detail suitable for you. After this stage, the rest of the process is the same and you will have your custom-made order from Urban Change Lab.
c) Request via our configurators
We understand that designing an item may be not easy for everybody, therefore we provide a little guidance through our configurators. We provide a configurator for custom-made bags and a configurator for custom-made cutlery trays. For bags, you first select your preferred bag type out of a variety of options. From there you are guided to select a design, colour, material, and more. For cutlery trays, it’s also a step-by-step process. Go wild with your specifications to make it unique to your taste or to fit your needs. The rest of the process is identical to the other two options above. Through the entire process, you have the option to make changes and communicate with the artisan.
We look forward to having you as a client very soon. Until next time!
